And now the 3rd design for 12…
3.) The Chessmaster
I drew up this design after seeing a few pictures of Capaldi rocking some bad ass Colonel Sanders facial hair. I like this look on him, though I doubt the designers (or Peter himself) will go this route. If they do - he’d be the first Doctor to wear a beard regularly, pending on whether or not John Hurt’s character counts as a Doctor.
I imagine this Doctor as a pretty flamboyant, eccentric old uncle type. Somewhat of a playboy - more of River Song’s equal than the flabbergasted 11th. Debonaire, but a bit loony with an occasional mean streak. His main vice would be manipulation - setting up people throughout space and time like chess pieces - at war with The Master. He twirls his mustache and pilots the TARDIS like a hearty sea captain. Maybe his TARDIS has a ship wheel.
I brought back a brooch for his frock coat. Overall this is not too much of a stretch from Smith’s current look, but is certainly a departure from the vanilla getups of 9 and 10.
Oh, and no sonic for this Doc. He gets out of sticky situations with his own wits, no magic wand needed.

I think this has to be my favourite of this great series of costume suggestion. Possibly because of the facial hair...
